HON. JUSTICE B. F. SEGUN-OLAKOJO
Biography
Mrs. Folabimpe Beatrice Segun-Olakojo (née Akinwale) was born in the year 1967 to the family of Chief Samuel Olasupo Akinwale and Elizabeth Omolara ofEgbeda local Government in Ibadan.
She attended St. Andrews Primary School, Okene, between 1971 and 1976, and had her Secondary School at Lennon Memorial College, Okene, where she finished in 1980. She later attended St. Annes School in Ibadan between 1981-1982. She proceeded to England where she obtained her intermediate Certificate in Law at the University College, Buckland in Oxfordshire (an affiliate of University of London) in 1984. She obtained her LL.B from Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife with a Second Class Upper Division in 1991, and was called to Bar in December, 1992, having obtained her B.L with Honours. She obtained her LL.M from the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, Lagos in 2006. She had her Youth Service Corp in the Law Firm of Chief Toye Coker (SAN) & Co. between 1993 and 1994. She was employed as a State Counsel in the Ministry of Justice, Oyo State in 1994. She has since rose through the ranks as a Public Servant Legal Practitioner and has acquired vast experience and expertise in a wide range of areas of law especially in the Public Sector.
She started as a prosecutor in the Department of Public Prosecution where she successfully prosecuted numerous cases. She was one of the youngest Counsel to be made the Administrator-General and Public trustee of oyo state a position she occupied when she was just a Senior State Counsel. She had worked in the Civil Litigation and Advisory Department and headed the same department as Director before she was appointed as the Acting Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary in May, 2021. She was also Director, Oyo State Mediation Centre and Legal Drafting and Parliamentary Counselling.
She has served in various Boards/Committees and is still a member of some before she was elevated to the bench. She is a member of the International Bar Association, The Nigerian Bar Association, and the International Federation of Women Lawyers, and has held various leadership roles in these organisations. She was the Financial Secretary and Assistant Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ibadan Branch between 1994 to 1997 and 1997 to 1999 respectively. She was the Social Secretary, International Federation of Women Lawyers, Ibadan Branch between 2001 and 2007. She has delivered several papers on a wide range of subjects that bothers on Public Interest Law. The papers include but not limited to: “Legal Framework of the Oyo State Multi-Door Courthouse Law, 2017” “Searchlight on Oyo State Health Insurance Law” Eliminating Violence Against the Girl-Child” The Young Nigerian Lawyer, His Roles, Relevance and Contributions Towards Sustaining National Development, Peace, Security and Sustainable Democracy in Nigeria; Ways Forward” “Mediation Skills” e.t.c. She has attended several seminars and workshops.
She is a skilled Legal Draftsman, an excellent advocate, a Certified Mediator and a Fellow of the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Society. She has drafted a number of Bills which are now Laws of Oyo State, and she has handled a lot of cases in Court on behalf of the State.
She is very passionate about Law Practice, the Legal Profession and mentoring young Lawyers. Her hobbies include reading, traveling, listening to music and singing. She was elevated and sworn in as a Judge of Oyo State High Court in October 2021.
She is currently a High Court Judge of the Oyo State Judiciary heading the Moniya Jurisdiction.
