The Oyo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), CC Kehinde Dahunsi, alongside members of the Sector Command Management Team, pays a familiarization and courtesy visit to the Honourable Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice I.S. Yerima, on Thursday, July 2, 2026.
The visit is aimed at formally introducing the new Sector Commander and further strengthening the cordial relationship between the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Oyo State Judiciary, one of the Corps’ most valued partners in promoting road safety and the administration of justice.
In his welcome address, the Sector Commander, CC Kehinde Dahunsi, expresses appreciation to the Honourable Chief Judge for the continued support enjoyed by the Corps. He particularly commends the appointment of Mrs. Latunde Odunola (Magistrate), to oversee FRSC Mobile Court activities in Oyo State. According to him, the appointment has significantly enhanced the speedy prosecution of traffic offenders and strengthened the enforcement of traffic laws across the state.
The Sector Commander also highlights the increasing need to expand mobile court operations across Oyo State and respectfully requests the appointment of additional Magistrates to cover the Oke-Ogun, Oyo, Ogbomosho, and Ibarapa divisions. He notes that the expansion will enable the Corps to conduct more effective mobile court sittings and improve compliance with traffic regulations throughout the state.
Furthermore, CC Kehinde Dahunsi respectfully appeals to the Honourable Chief Judge to accept the appointment as an Honorary Member of the FRSC Special Marshals, following the exemplary footsteps of the President of the Court of Appeal, Hon. Justice Monica Bolna’an Dongban-Mensem, CFR, who serves as an Honorary Special Marshal of the Corps. He states that the acceptance will further strengthen the partnership between the Judiciary and the FRSC.
The Sector Commander also seeks the support of the Chief Judge in nominating a Judicial Officer or Legal Practitioner to serve as a facilitator and resource person during the Command’s quarterly workshops for officers and personnel. The workshops focus on legal procedures, traffic laws, prosecution, and court processes.
In her response, the Honourable Chief Judge, Justice I.S. Yerima, warmly welcomes the FRSC delegation and appreciates the Sector Commander and his team for the visit. She notes that the visit further strengthens the already existing cordial relationship between the Judiciary and the Corps and reaffirms the Judiciary’s commitment to sustaining the partnership.
Justice Yerima assures the delegation that additional courts will be created where necessary to support the effective administration of justice and facilitate FRSC mobile court operations across the state.
The Chief Judge graciously accepts the appointment as an Honorary Member of the FRSC Special Marshals and requests that the date for the investiture ceremony be communicated to her.
She also assures the Command that the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) will nominate a Judicial Officer or Legal Practitioner to serve as a facilitator during the Command’s quarterly legal workshops. In addition, she advises the Corps to maintain close collaboration with the Deputy Chief Registrar (Magistrates matters), Mr. Taiwo Oladiran, on judiciary-related matters.
Also speaking during the visit, Justice L.A. Akintola emphasizes the need for continuous education of motorists and drivers across the state. Responding, the Sector Commander explains that the Corps already has several public enlightenment initiatives in place, including regular radio programmes and compulsory traffic education for apprehended traffic offenders before their release.
The visit concludes with renewed commitments from both the FRSC and the Oyo State Judiciary to deepen collaboration in promoting road safety, strengthening traffic law enforcement, and ensuring effective administration of justice in Oyo State.
